Qualifying investments may attract 30% relief under EIS or 50% under SEIS, subject to your tax liability and the scheme conditions.
Gains on qualifying shares may be exempt if the required income tax relief is retained and the minimum holding period is met.
EIS can allow an eligible existing capital gain to be deferred. Tax can become payable when the deferral ends.
Eligible losses, after income tax relief already received, may be offset against income. Your investment can still be lost.

The minimum tax holding period is not an exit date. Unlisted shares may be difficult or impossible to sell and can remain illiquid for many years.
